Did you know that high blood pressure is the leading cause of death worldwide?

Hypertension (high blood pressure) is known as the silent killer because it doesn't cause symptoms on its own, but is a major contributor to heart attacks, strokes, and other cardiovascular disease.


Healthify NZ states that at least 1 in 5 New Zealanders have high blood pressure,

but most don't know they have it!



Quick Tips

Dietary Changes - Reduce Sodium Intake - Limit processed foods & takeaways,

and restaurant meals which are often high in sodium


Follow a Heart-Healthy Diet - Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables

(aim for 5+ servings daily)


Stay Active - Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise weekly

Take advantage of New Zealand's outdoor lifestyle - walking, hiking, cycling, swimming


Try activities like gardening, which many Kiwis enjoy

Even 30 minutes of brisk walking daily can make a significant difference


Maintain a Healthy Weight - Even losing 5-10kg can significantly reduce blood pressure


Limit Alcohol - Follow New Zealand's drinking guidelines:

no more than 10 standard drinks per week

Have at least 2 alcohol-free days per week

Consider reducing or eliminating alcohol if you have high blood pressure


Get Quality Sleep - Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep nightly
