Quality Sleep Can Add 4+ Years to Your Life

Do you know how valuable sleep is?

A recent study of 172,321 adults found that men who get adequate sleep lived 4.7 years

longer than men who didn't, while women lived around 2 years longer.

Getting quality sleep is one of the most important things you can do

if you want to have a healthy, long life.

Here are 4 things to try:

1: Use Sunlight to Regulate Your Circadian Rhythm

Studies have found that exposure to natural light increases sleep duration

and improves sleep quality.

Getting out in the Sun can regulate melatonin secretion, giving you more energy

in the day and letting you fall asleep easier at night.

This is particularly effective within the first hour of waking

- aim for 10-30 minutes in the Sun every day.


2: Cut Out Screentime Before Bed

Research shows that too much exposure to screens impacts your sleep.

Scrolling on a phone or tablet before bed can be especially damaging.

This is partly because the stuff on your phone (games, social media, etc.) tends to be mentally stimulating, but also because blue light from your screen

sends signals to your brain that it's time to be awake.

Try cutting out screentime 30-60 minutes before you go to bed.

3: Watch What You Eat

A good diet helps us relax and get better sleep,

while a poor diet can stop us from getting to sleep and reduce the quality of sleep.

Try to avoid large meals close to bedtime and cut out stimulants like

Aim to avoid stimulants 1 to 2 hours before bed.
