New Study on SIRT6

A new study in Aging looked at the effect of SIRT6 on spinal degeneration.

It showed that SIRT6 effects how macrophages operate and regulate immunity and inflammation.

Researchers used rats with intervertebral disc degeneration, as commonly seen in older humans.

The study stated "Intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) is one of the leading causes of disability worldwide.It is a chief contributor to low back pain, which is associated with diminished quality of life and a massive economic burden"

They looked at pyropoptis, a type of programmed cell death

that only happens when lots of inflammation is present.

They increased SIRT6 in some rats, and those rats saw massively reduced inflammation and better results.

They also noted that increasing SIRT6 activity also increased M2 macrophages, which are known to have anti-inflammatory properties.
